Knitwear Sector

Knitwear industry has been playing a very important role in the economic growth of the country for almost three decades now. Relatively of younger age and apart from being the largest consumer of local production of yarn, the industry is contributing in earning valuable foreign exchange to the tune of US Dollars 2.2 Billion per annum. Major brands including Gap, JC Penney Stores, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, Target Stores, Nike, Sears Corporation, Reebok, Levi’s, Wrangler, Calvin Klein jeans, Chaps Ralph Lauren, Aerospatiale and Polo Jeans etc. are sourcing considerable quantity of knitwear from Pakistan.

Knitwear sector came out of its earlier image of hosiery production into a modern knitwear industry during the last thirty years. It has proved to be the most vibrant segment of textiles by making about 12% of the over all export earnings of the country and more than 20% of the export of textiles. It is also registering an annual growth of more than 15% in this difficult era.

It rose from scratch to its present level of US$ 2 Billions in this short period of time. This was only possible due to massive investments made in fixed assets and human capital. This spectacular growth was also not possible without the extreme hard work of our nation who strived tirelessly day in and day out put ‘Pakistan’ on the global knitwear map.
